During the transition from circuit switched to packet switched networks there must be hybrid solutions for coexistence. The earlier existing Packet-over-TDM is now replaced with TDM-over-Packet transmission (referred as circuit emulation). This is a challenging task, especially the precise transmission of the timing signals. Though commercial solutions are available for the problem, it is important to build competence in this area.
Action: Activities with the following phases could be started:
- study basics of TDM-over-Packet solutions (required scenarios and mechanisms in standards)
- study TDM-over-Packet solutions available on the market
- implement a simple/fully functional method
Result: Following achievements are expected:
- prototype model in TDM-over-Packet solutions
- competence in TDM-over-Packet solutions
Ericsson dependence: no.
